Hezbollah Urges Saudi Arabia to Unite Against Israel
Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement has called on Saudi Arabia to move past old disputes and work together to form a united front against Israel.
In a televised speech, Hezbollah’s deputy leader Sheikh Naim Qassem said regional powers should recognize Israel as the main threat to Middle East stability—not Hezbollah.
He assured Saudi Arabia that Hezbollah’s weapons are aimed only at Israel, and do not pose any threat to Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, or other countries. He proposed freezing past disagreements during this critical time to counter Israel’s aggression.
Tensions between Saudi Arabia and Hezbollah go back years. In 2016, Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies declared Hezbollah a terrorist organization. Relations worsened in 2021 when Saudi Arabia expelled Lebanon’s ambassador and banned Lebanese imports, accusing Hezbollah of dominating Lebanon’s government.
Qassem’s latest message signals Hezbollah’s willingness to repair ties with Saudi Arabia. He said that unity is now more important than division, especially given the growing regional challenges.
This call for reconciliation reflects changing political dynamics in the Middle East, as countries reassess alliances and threats. It remains to be seen how Saudi Arabia will respond to Hezbollah’s message.
