Chinese Airline Unveils 29-Hour Flight from Buenos Aires to Shanghai

22 September, 2025 16:15

A Chinese airline has announced plans to operate one of the longest commercial flights globally. The route, spanning 29 hours, will link Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Shanghai, China, with a brief two-hour stopover in Auckland, New Zealand.

While not a non-stop flight, it is set to become one of the most time-intensive journeys currently available for travelers. Previously, the record for the longest non-stop commercial flight was held by the Singapore to New York route, lasting about 19 hours.

This ambitious service reflects the increasing global demand for long-haul travel and the growing connectivity of international air networks. China’s aviation sector, driven by strong domestic demand, government support, and an expanding middle class, continues to grow rapidly. Major carriers such as China Southern, Air China, and China Eastern operate extensive domestic and international routes.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) regulates the industry to ensure safety and compliance with international standards.

At the same time, China is advancing its aircraft manufacturing capabilities through firms like COMAC, which developed the C919 jet to reduce dependence on foreign-made planes. Ongoing investments in airport infrastructure and air cargo services are further strengthening China’s position in global aviation.
