New admission policy sets $10,000 MDCAT fee for overseas Pakistanis
The Punjab government has approved a new admission policy for both public and private medical and dental colleges. The decision was taken in a special meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where several health-related matters were discussed.
MDCAT Made Mandatory
According to the new policy, students must pass the MDCAT (Medical and Dental College Admission Test) to secure admission in public medical colleges.
MDCAT Fee for Overseas Pakistanis’ Children
To support overseas Pakistanis, the government has fixed a $10,000 fee for their children appearing in the MDCAT.
Policy for Private Medical Colleges
Students on the admission list of private colleges must pay one-third of the tuition fee to the University of Health Sciences (UHS).
Once the final merit list is issued, UHS will transfer the collected fees to the respective institutions.
Students will then pay the remaining fees directly to their private colleges.
Post-Graduate Training
The meeting also decided to introduce mandatory post-graduate training at private hospitals. Trainee doctors will be sent for specialization based on the demand for specialists in different fields.
