UN Chief Calls for Full Implementation of Gaza Peace Agreement

09 October, 2025 09:44

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called on both Israel and Hamas to fully honor and implement the terms of the Gaza peace agreement. The deal, which marks the first major step toward ending the long-running war in Gaza, was signed earlier this week under a peace plan initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Guterres Stresses Need for Permanent Ceasefire

In a statement issued on Thursday, Guterres urged both parties to respect their commitments under the initial phase of the peace accord. He said all hostages must be released in a safe and dignified manner, and that a permanent ceasefire must be ensured to prevent further violence.

“The people of Gaza have suffered far too long. This agreement must lead to a final and lasting end to the war,” Guterres said.

The UN chief also called on international guarantors to play their role in ensuring that both sides adhere to the deal’s provisions, especially those concerning humanitarian access, reconstruction, and security arrangements.

Trump Says Gaza Will Be Rebuilt

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump praised the progress, saying that Gaza is “now becoming a much safer place.” He noted that regional countries—including those with vast resources—are ready to assist in rebuilding Gaza once peace is fully restored.

“Gaza will be rebuilt with help from other nations in the region. They want peace, and they want this process to succeed,” Trump said, adding that the United States will also contribute to reconstruction efforts.

The Gaza peace agreement was reached after intensive mediation involving the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey. It includes plans for a ceasefire, hostage and prisoner exchanges, and a gradual Israeli troop withdrawal from the enclave.

Global Support for Gaza Peace Deal

International leaders have welcomed the development, viewing it as a hopeful turning point for the region. Analysts say that successful implementation of the agreement could open the door to long-term stability in the Middle East and bring relief to millions affected by years of conflict.
