‘Worst of All Time’: Trump Slams TIME Magazine for ‘Erasing’ His Hair From Cover Photo
Donald Trump has once again found himself at the center of media debate — this time, over his appearance on the cover of TIME magazine. While the publication featured him in a story highlighting his administration’s success in brokering the Gaza ceasefire, the U.S. president has sharply criticized the photograph chosen for the issue, calling it “the worst of all time.”
The TIME feature outlines how Trump’s administration “sealed the Gaza ceasefire deal,” resulting in the release of all surviving hostages abducted by Hamas and the exchange of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Israeli forces have since withdrawn from several areas of Gaza, while international aid has begun entering the region — officially declared to be in famine by the United Nations in August.
Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan is reportedly progressing, with a “Board of Peace” — jointly led by Trump and former British Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair — currently being formed. Yet, despite the diplomatic milestone, the president believes TIME’s front cover has eclipsed what he views as one of his most significant achievements.
The controversial image depicts Trump from a low angle, the sun positioned directly behind his head, causing his pale hair to blend with the bright backdrop. Though the president expressed satisfaction with the article’s tone, he took issue with the picture, venting his frustration on Truth Social.
“Time Magazine wrote a relatively good story about me, but the picture may be the Worst of All Time,” Trump wrote. “They ‘disappeared’ my hair, and then had something floating on top of my head that looked like a tiny crown — really weird! I never liked taking pictures from underneath angles, but this is a super bad picture, and deserves to be called out. What are they doing, and why?”
The magazine’s cover headline reads “His Triumph,” accompanied by subheadings “The Leader Israel Needed” and “How Gaza Heals.” The choice of photograph has drawn fierce debate, with Trump supporters labeling it “evil.” Comparisons have been drawn to The Jerusalem Post’s recent front page titled “God Bless the Peacemaker,” which displayed a solemn, black-and-white portrait of Trump.
Professional photographer Matt Sweetwood commented, “As a pro photographer myself, if they used that photo of mine I would freak out. No one takes a picture of a world leader up the nostril. It’s deliberate, it’s awful, and it’s evil.” Another photographer, Pam D, posted on X, “As a photographer, I would be ashamed to put this out there as my work. Shooting up someone’s nose? HUGE no no. If they gave him options and he chose this, that’s different, but if they chose it? No.”
Not all responses have been critical, however. One social media user praised the image as “clean, sky-dominant, presidential,” noting, “No American flag. No Capitol. No chaos. Just posture, light, and title. It’s the brand move: authority without apology.” Another supporter wrote, “I know most people don’t like the photo, but I think it’s powerful. He looks like he just won a war — grateful, relieved, victorious.”
The striking cover has also triggered speculation that Donald Trump could be named TIME magazine’s “Person of the Year” for 2025. The accolade, awarded annually since 1917, was previously given to Trump in 2024 following his re-election. Depending on the ultimate outcome of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, analysts suggest he could become a back-to-back recipient of the title.
