Caste-Based Discrimination Continues Under Modi Government in India

15 October, 2025 10:03

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, caste-based discrimination and prejudice against Dalits and marginalized communities remain widespread in India.

The Modi government’s policies have intensified divisions, making life difficult for many people based on their caste. Institutional bias, religious tensions, and violence have pushed the caste system to alarming levels.

The recent death of Dalit IPS officer Porn Kumar has exposed deep-rooted caste discrimination within India’s government institutions. Porn Kumar was found dead at his home in Chandigarh. Reports say he had raised concerns about unfair promotions and transfers in the bureaucracy.

Congress leader Harish Rawat condemned the officer’s death, saying that caste-based discrimination played a major role. He called the conspiracy mentioned in Porn Kumar’s suicide note “a serious issue” and questioned the behavior of government institutions towards Dalits.

Rahul Gandhi also highlighted the dangers Dalits face, stating that if you are a Dalit in India, you can be oppressed and discarded.

In Uttar Pradesh, a Dalit citizen recently lost his life due to violence by Hindu extremist groups, showing rising caste tensions and hate crimes in the region.
