Horrific Oil Tanker Explosion Kills 35 People in Nigeria

Abuja: At least 35 people were killed and many others injured after a fuel tanker overturned and exploded in Niger State, northern Nigeria.
According to Reuters, the incident happened when a petrol-filled tanker slipped and overturned on the road. Aishatu Saidu, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said the fuel started leaking immediately, leading to a massive fire and explosion.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene, moving the injured and dead to a nearby hospital. Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours.
Officials said that due to a lack of pipelines, most petroleum products in Nigeria are transported by road tankers. This often leads to such deadly accidents.
Reports also point out that poor road conditions and weak safety measures cause dozens of deaths every year in similar incidents across the country.
