PHF decides against sending junior hockey team to India for World Cup

23 October, 2025 19:08

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has decided not to send the national junior hockey team to the Junior World Cup scheduled in India from November 28 to December 10.

According to sources, the decision was made during a high-level meeting in Islamabad. The meeting discussed security concerns and India’s negative attitude towards Pakistan in sports, especially during the recent Asia Cup.

Officials said the PHF will soon officially inform Hockey India about its decision. The federation and the government agreed that players’ safety cannot be compromised, which led to the withdrawal from the event.

Meanwhile, the issue of PHF elections was also discussed during a meeting of the “National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination,” chaired by MNA Sheikh Aftab Ahmed.

It is important to note that while the International Cricket Council (ICC) provides neutral venues for Pakistan-India matches, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has not yet introduced such an arrangement.

Pakistan had also skipped the Asia Cup held in India last month, even though it was a qualifying event for next year’s World Cup.
