Powerful Earthquake Strikes Western Türkiye, No Casualties Reported
A powerful earthquake struck western Türkiye early Tuesday morning, causing panic among residents across several provinces.
According to initial reports, the quake measured 6.1 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter in the Sindirgi town of Balikesir province. The tremor occurred at a depth of approximately 6 kilometers.
The earthquake was felt in multiple cities, including Istanbul, Bursa, Manisa, and Izmir, damaging several buildings. However, no casualties have been reported so far, local authorities confirmed.
Eyewitnesses said the tremors were strong and prolonged, prompting people to rush out of their homes and buildings in fear.
Rescue and emergency teams have reached the affected areas, where inspection and damage assessment operations are underway.
There were also reports of temporary power outages in some regions following the quake. Officials have urged residents to remain calm, avoid rumors, and follow official emergency instructions.
