23 November, 2025 20:14

Pakistan secured the IBSF Snooker World Cup Team Championship on Sunday, completing a remarkable turnaround to defeat Hong Kong China 2 by 3–2 in a thrilling best-of-five final.

The national duo — former world champion Muhammad Asif and cueist Asjad Iqbal — displayed outstanding skill under pressure, producing two decisive century breaks in the final stages to lift the trophy. Hong Kong China 2 featured players Chau Hon Man and Nansen Wan.

The final began unfavourably for Pakistan as Chau Hon Man outclassed Asjad Iqbal 94–0, powered by an impressive 85 break. However, Pakistan struck back in the second singles frame when Asif crafted a superb 82 break to seal a 95–17 victory over Nansen Wan.

Hong Kong moved ahead once more after clinching the doubles frame 84–41, putting Pakistan behind 2–1 and just one frame away from defeat.

But the momentum swung dramatically in the reverse singles. Asif produced a flawless 100 break to defeat Chau Hon Man 100–36, bringing Pakistan level at 2–2 and setting up a decisive final frame.

With the championship on the line, Iqbal delivered under pressure, firing a brilliant 104 break to dominate Nansen Wan 104–0, completing Pakistan’s impressive comeback and securing a 3–2 win.
Frame scores were: 0–94 (85), 95 (82)–17, 41–84, 100 (100)–36, 104 (104)–0.

This latest victory also adds another milestone to Asif’s illustrious career. The triumph becomes his seventh world title, comprising three team world championships, three individual world crowns, and one World Masters title.
