Steelers’ offense shines in 28–15 win over Dolphins

16 December, 2025 12:25

Throughout a lackluster 2025 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense has received a lot of attention.

Monday night, there weren’t many issues. The Steelers defeated the Miami Dolphins 28–15, a victory that wasn’t as close as the final score suggests, after starting slowly for the majority of the first two quarters and then scoring touchdowns on four straight drives.

The victory gave the Steelers an 8-6 record and a one-game advantage over the 7-7 Baltimore Ravens in the quest for the AFC North championship. Pittsburgh’s victory over the Ravens in their lone encounter this season last week strengthened that lead. The Dolphins’ defeat formally removes them from contention for the postseason.

There are three games left on the Steelers’ schedule, including a regular-season finale matchup with the Ravens. Additionally, they maintain their lead with Monday’s victory, securing what appears to be the sole playoff spot in the division.

They also addressed those who criticized a team that had a total offensive ranking of 27th in the league going into Monday night.

Early on, it appeared that Pittsburgh’s offensive problems would persist. Two of the Steelers’ three consecutive punts at the start of the game on Monday came from three-and-out drives.

However, they used a 60-yard touchdown drive to end the first half. And in the second, they let the floodgates open. Pittsburgh had the ball at the beginning of the third quarter and opened the second half with the first of three straight touchdown drives.

Aaron Rodgers’ 19-yard pass to former Packers teammate Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who was playing in his second game for Pittsburgh after joining the Steelers in November, was the first touchdown of the half.

The second came from Rodgers’ 28-yard pass to DK Metcalf, who pushed past several Dolphins to reach the end zone.

The rout began at 28-3 when tight end Jonnu Smith scored on a rush from 14 yards out on Pittsburgh’s subsequent possession. Although the Dolphins scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, the Steelers and head coach Mike Tomlin, who have come under pressure from some quarters, made a statement about the blowout.

The Steelers outgained the Dolphins by 163 yards to -20 during the third-quarter assault. By the end of the game, Pittsburgh had a 22-16 lead in first downs and had outgained Miami 336-285.

In one of his best performances as a Steelers player, Rodgers completed 23 of 27 passes for 224 yards, two touchdowns, and no turnovers. Additionally, 135 running yards and two scores were scored by five different Steelers runners.

Naturally, defeating a Dolphins club that is headed out of the playoffs won’t allay the worries about this team. Making the playoffs and succeeding there will be necessary for that. Since the 2016 season, the Steelers have not won a postseason game.

However, the victory and the way they arrived are undoubtedly plenty to give them some confidence going into the season’s final stretch.
