PTA Issues Nationwide Guidelines Urging Responsible Use of SIMs

25 December, 2025 15:46

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued fresh nationwide guidelines advising citizens to use SIM cards and telecommunication connections responsibly in order to protect the country’s communication system.

According to the authority, telecom users must ensure that they only use SIMs registered in their own name. The use of SIM cards registered under another person’s identity will be treated as a clear violation of telecom regulations. PTA clarified that this requirement applies uniformly to all mobile and telecommunication connections across Pakistan.

Registered User Held Fully Accountable

Under the new guidelines, full responsibility for any illegal, incorrect, or unauthorized use of a SIM or telecommunication connection will lie with the registered user. This includes accountability for all calls, messages, and data usage made through the registered SIM or device.

The PTA emphasized that registered users will not be able to shift responsibility to any other individual in cases of misuse.

Warning of Legal and Administrative Action

The telecom regulator has warned that legal and administrative action may be taken against individuals found violating the guidelines. Non-compliance with relevant telecom laws and regulations could result in penalties as prescribed under existing legislation.

The authority urged users to strictly adhere to all applicable rules and regulations and to act responsibly while using telecom services. PTA stressed that responsible behavior by citizens is crucial to maintaining the safety, stability, and security of Pakistan’s national communication infrastructure.
