Punjab introduces student smart card driving system for 16-year-olds
Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, has launched a modern Smart Card Driving System specially designed for 16-year-old students. The aim of this system is to teach young students about road safety, traffic rules, and responsible behavior, helping them become safer drivers in the future.
Unlike regular driving programs, this system focuses on safety education rather than just learning to drive.
Why the Smart Card System Was Introduced
The CM took this step because:
Many young riders go on roads without understanding traffic rules.
Minor accidents and safety risks were increasing.
Students needed basic knowledge of traffic discipline.
Parental supervision and involvement needed improvement.
The goal is not to let students drive freely, but to give them basic safety training and awareness.
Key Features of the Smart Card System
Smart Digital Card – Stores student information, safety training status, and eligibility.
Integration with Punjab Safety Systems – Linked to Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) for easy monitoring and record-keeping.
Safety Education Modules – Includes educational materials, training videos, and workshops on road safety.
Responsible Behavior Focus – Emphasizes:
Using helmets
Traffic signal awareness
Safe road crossing
Basic vehicle control
How the System Works
Schools verify student enrollment.
Students attend basic safety sessions.
Parents are involved for proper supervision.
Student information is securely stored in the digital system.
The process ensures students learn safe road behavior without encouraging them to drive on restricted roads.
