PSL sets auction date for Multan Sultans franchise

05 February, 2026 12:15

The future ownership of Multan Sultans will be decided on February 9, as the Pakistan Super League (PSL) prepares to hold a franchise auction for the team.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), five bidders have been shortlisted to take part in the auction. These bidders were selected after a detailed and transparent review by the PCB’s bid committee. One bidder was rejected during the evaluation process.

Multan Sultans are one of the most successful teams in PSL history and won the league in 2021, which makes the auction even more important.

The ownership process began after Ali Tareen, the former owner of Multan Sultans, announced in November that he would step away from the franchise. His decision came after long-standing disagreements with the PCB that lasted for over a year. Due to these issues, both sides were unable to continue working together.

Following this, the PCB took temporary control of the franchise and set up an independent committee to handle team matters before the upcoming players’ auction on February 11.

Multan Sultans have decided not to retain any players, including captain Mohammad Rizwan. As a result, the team will enter the auction with its full USD 1.6 million budget, giving the new owners complete freedom to build a fresh squad.
