Namibia Questions ICC Over Unfair Training Schedule Ahead of India Clash

12 February, 2026 10:17

Delhi, February 12, 2026 — Namibia cricket captain Gerhard Erasmus has raised concerns over the International Cricket Council (ICC) not providing his team a night training session before their T20 World Cup 2026 clash against defending champions India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Erasmus expressed frustration over the lack of under-lights practice, saying India had two night sessions and Canada was also given night training, while Namibia had only daytime sessions.

“We haven’t been given a night training before this game. India has two night trainings and now I see Canada training at night too. We’ll just rock up and do our Namibian way, which is to fight,” Erasmus said.

Limited Experience With Night Matches

Namibia’s preparation was limited to day matches and daylight practice. Erasmus highlighted that Namibia does not have floodlights in their home country, making night matches a challenge.

“We don’t have floodlights in Namibia for day/night games. Infrastructure-wise, it’s a challenge. Players only get experience with lights if they play in leagues like the Nepal Premier League, ILT20, or World Cups,” he added.

ICC Responds

The ICC said Namibia’s request for night practice came too late. A spokesperson stated that training schedules were shared on January 27 and any changes were accommodated where possible.

“Namibia requested a change only on the night of February 10 — too late for adjustments,” the ICC added.

Namibia’s T20 World Cup Campaign

Namibia qualified for the T20 World Cup 2026 after winning the Africa qualifier in Harare. They started their tournament with a loss against the Netherlands. Namibia’s remaining group matches are against the United States and Pakistan, both scheduled for 3pm local time.

Erasmus and his team remain focused on performing despite the lack of night training, emphasizing their fighting spirit on the field.
