DG Meteorology Predicts First Ramadan 1447 Fast in Pakistan on February 19, 2026

12 February, 2026 11:36

Islamabad – February 12, 2026: The Director General of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Sahibzad Khan, has shared the likely dates for Ramadan 1447 Hijri in Pakistan. According to him, the new moon of Ramadan is expected to be visible on February 18, 2026, which would make February 19, 2026, the probable date for the first fast.

The PMD confirmed that the moon will be born on February 17, 2026, at 5:01 PM. After that, the chances of sighting the crescent on the evening of February 18 are high. Meteorologists say the weather in most parts of Pakistan is expected to be partly cloudy or clear, which could improve the possibility of moon sighting.

Moon Sighting Timings by Province

  • Sindh: Last chance to sight the moon at 7:24 PM

  • Punjab: Last moon sighting time at 7:08 PM

  • Balochistan: Moon sighting possible till 7:47 PM

Experts note that astronomical calculations indicate the crescent will be mature enough by the evening of February 18, increasing the likelihood of Ramadan’s start. However, the official beginning of Ramadan will be confirmed by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after verifying sightings.

If the moon is sighted on February 18, 2026, Pakistan is expected to observe the first fast of Ramadan 1447 Hijri on February 19, 2026.
