Virginia Woman Lina Guerra Found Dead in Freezer, Husband David Varela Flees to Hong Kong

18 February, 2026 21:29

In a shocking incident in Norfolk, the body of a woman was discovered in a freezer, while the prime suspect and her husband, David Varela, has fled to Hong Kong.

According to police, 39-year-old Lena was found on February 5 in the freezer of the apartment where she lived with her husband, who is a U.S. Navy serviceman.

Her family had filed a missing person report on January 16 after losing contact with her. The post-mortem confirmed that her death was a homicide.

Police have registered a first-degree murder and corpse concealment case against David Varela. Investigations revealed that he had stopped responding to calls from his military command, which was unusual for him.

Evidence suggests that he fled the U.S. around February 5, and WhatsApp location data later confirmed his phone was active in Hong Kong.

Family members stated that David Varela misled them, claiming, “Lena was arrested on shoplifting charges,” even sending a photo purportedly showing her in jail.

The case has attracted international attention, and U.S. authorities are taking steps to bring the fugitive back. Police continue to investigate to uncover all evidence and the motive behind the murder.
