China Urges Immediate Ceasefire After US-Israel Strikes on Iran, Warns of Regional Instability

01 March, 2026 11:53

China has called for an immediate ceasefire following the recent US and Israeli attacks on Iran, warning that further escalation could destabilize the entire region.

In an official statement, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed “deep concern” over the strikes, emphasizing that Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity must be respected. The statement urged all parties to exercise restraint, avoid further escalation, and return to dialogue and negotiations.

The attacks, carried out on Saturday, targeted Iran’s military capabilities. According to Iranian state media, the strikes resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

On Sunday, China issued travel advisories for its citizens in the region. The Chinese embassy in Israel advised nationals to move to safe locations or, if possible, cross into Egypt via the Taba border crossing. Chinese citizens in Iran were also advised to leave the country “as soon as possible,” with recommended land routes through Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, and Iraq.

China’s official news agency described the attacks as “open aggression against a sovereign state,” stating that the action violates the principles of the United Nations Charter and fundamental norms of international relations.

The rising tensions have also affected aviation in the region. Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific Airways suspended flights to the Middle East, including passenger services to and from Dubai and Riyadh, as well as cargo operations passing through Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport. The airline said that affected flight routes are being adjusted, and it is continuously monitoring the overall security situation.
