An Austrian tourist celebrated Holi in Vrundavan, which is turned painful after she claimed that a small stone mixed in the colours were throwing in her eyes, her vision blurred after many days. Her viral Instagram video has since sparked debate online, with many users urging tourists to celebrate Holi in safer, private spaces rather than on public streets.
Britta Schlagbauer took her Instagram and shared a video, telling her experience of celebrating Holi in the temple town. She wrote in the caption of the post.

While enjoying Holi, she talks about that, she buying scarfs, she visits temples over there, tasting Holi’s traditional drink Bhang which making with Cannabis leaves. She said, ‘Monkeys were climbing over us. We had amazing food, visited stunning temples. Holi was wild and beautiful. And then it happened.’
Though, things swiftly took a turn. “For a moment it wasn’t just fun,” she claimed that huge amounts of colours were thrown every few seconds, and some took that colours from the ground and the small stones mixed in the colour. She said, “Unfortunately, someone picked up colour from the ground with stones and threw it straight into my eyes. It burned like hell. I cried it out. I washed it out. But days later, my vision is still blurry.”
The video prompted online discussion about how tourist should experience Holi safely in India.
Several commenters suggested that travelers avoid playing Holi on crowded streets and instead join organized celebrations at temples or private venues.
One user commented, “You should have gone to the secret Vrindavan temple and not walked on the road. There are so many beautiful temples, for example, Shri Radha Raman Ji, Radhavallabh Ji and many more are very beautiful,”
Another wrote, “Never, never celebrate Holi in the streets, anywhere in India. It’s always best to celebrate it in a controlled and private environment like in a paid club or hotel.”
The Third one commented, “Tourists should always play Holi in private spaces not on streets. It is a bitter truth.”
Some users also pointed out that people often consume alcohol or bhang during Holi celebrations, which can lead to unruly behaviour.
