Prince William Joins Royals in Grief After Devastating Loss

The Prince of Wales quietly joined Princess Anne and the Duchess of Edinburgh at a memorial service on 4 March 2026, Wednesday morning.

According to local paper Brecon & Radnor Express, the future king, was seen arriving at Brecon Cathedral to remember former lady-in-waiting Dame Shân Legge-Bourke. He was joined by the Princess Royal and the Duchess of Edinburgh.

The Dame was once the lady in waiting for Princess Anne and was also known to be close to Queen Camilla. Announcing her passing in an Instagram post back in December, her family said they were “devastated” by her loss.

Dame Shan is survived by her three children, who shared that they were “devastated to lose [their] mother”, while announcing the upsetting news on social media.

Dame Shân’s family announced her death on Monday, Dec. 15. She died “peacefully at her home” surrounded by her three children, they said in a statement.

In their tribute, they wrote: “She was an inspiration to us all, and to many people she met over her years of service to Wales, and the countless organisations and institutions she supported.”

They added: “A country girl at heart, she has left an indelible legacy at Glanusk, the wider countryside and beyond.”

Dame Shan was not just a Lady-in-waiting, in fact, she had many ties to the British royal family. was appointed a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order in 1988 and became a Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 2015.
