Trump blew $19 billion on US-Israeli war on Iran, says US congressman
US Congressman Jim McGovern has criticized the US-Israeli aggression against Iran, highlighting that the money spent on the war could have been used to fight infectious diseases in the United States.
In a post on X on Saturday, McGovern, who represents Massachusetts in Congress, said:
“In under 2 weeks, Trump has blown $19 BILLION on his reckless Iran War. That is 2x what we spend each year on preventing infectious diseases in the US.”
He added, “He is enriching his billionaire Big Oil and Defense Contractor donors instead of keeping America healthy. So much for MAHA [Make America Healthy Again].”
According to the Pentagon’s briefing to Congress, the US spent at least $11 billion in the first week of the war. Since then, it has spent more than $1 billion each day to continue its operations alongside Israel against Iran.
The US and Israel began their attacks on Iran in late February, targeting several sites across Tehran. In response, Iranian armed forces launched missile and drone strikes on Israeli-occupied territories and US bases in the region.
Iran’s Ministry of Defense claims that at least 600 American troops have been killed at various US bases since the aggression began. Iranian officials said targeting US bases is “legitimate self-defense”, citing Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which gives Iran the legal right to defend itself against “acts of aggression” by the US or Israel.
