US embassy in Baghdad hit by drone strike

The US embassy in the so-called Green Zone of Baghdad, Iraq, was hit by a drone strike on Tuesday. There are no immediate reports about casualties or the damage caused.

Iraqi news outlets said that a swarm of kamikaze drones struck the diplomatic mission early in the day, sending columns of smoke and fire into the sky. Local sources said that air defense missile systems tried to intercept the drones but were unsuccessful. American warplanes were reportedly hovering above the embassy after the attack.

At the same time, fighters from the Islamic Resistance in Iraq launched coordinated attacks on US military bases across the country. Multiple explosions were reported at the Victory Airbase near Baghdad International Airport, though details about casualties or damage are not yet available.

On March 12, the Iraqi Resistance group said they carried out dozens of strikes on American bases across Iraq and the region within 24 hours. They said these attacks used drones and were meant as revenge for ongoing US aggression and attacks on the Axis of Resistance.
