Gulf Crisis Intensifies as Iran Strikes Jubail Industrial Hub

07 April, 2026 15:27

Iran launched ballistic missiles and drones at Jubail Industrial City in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province on April 7, causing massive flames throughout one of the biggest industrial centers in the world and a significant escalation of Gulf tensions.

With more than 150 industrial complexes spread across more than 1,000 square kilometers, Jubail is a major hub for Saudi Arabia’s petrochemical and energy industries and accounts for 7–12% of the nation’s GDP.

The scope of the attack is shown by footage from the scene that shows enormous explosions and flames. The strikes take place just hours before US President Donald Trump’s deadline for Iran to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a crucial chokepoint for international oil supplies.

Iranian officials claim that Saudi Arabia and Israel are the “main instigators” of the current tensions in the Gulf. Iran formally rejected Washington’s 15-point peace proposal and proposed a 10-point counter-framework at the same time as the attack. Iran’s demands include full US sanctions relief, Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, security guarantees against future attacks, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz under a $2 million transit fee shared with Oman, with the proceeds going toward regional reconstruction.

Global markets have already been impacted by the strike and diplomatic maneuvers. Bitcoin fell by about 2% to about $68,500 early on Tuesday, while Brent crude surpassed $111 per barrel. While US equity indices, such as the Nasdaq, Dow Jones, and Russell 2000, saw moderate increases, gold and silver saw a little fall.

The next few hours, according to analysts, will be critical in determining whether Tehran’s assertive stance results in a diplomatic breakthrough or sets off the military reactions Trump had threatened.
