PM Shehbaz says efforts continue to resolve US-Iran conflict

13 April, 2026 18:53

Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan is still actively working to help resolve ongoing issues between the United States and Iran.

He praised both the political and military leadership for their role in hosting important talks in Islamabad. Pakistan played a key role as a mediator and helped arrange a two-week ceasefire between the two countries on April 8.

After the ceasefire, delegations from the US and Iran visited Islamabad at Pakistan’s invitation and held talks for more than 20 hours over the weekend. However, the discussions did not lead to a final agreement.

Speaking at a federal cabinet meeting, the prime minister said Pakistan helped bring both sides together after around 47 years. He added that this was the first time the two countries held direct, face-to-face talks at such a high level, lasting about 21 hours.

The prime minister said Pakistan’s leadership worked very hard to make these talks possible. He also thanked both the US and Iran for accepting Pakistan’s invitation and appreciated their positive response to the country’s hospitality.

He added that Pakistan’s efforts helped maintain the two-week ceasefire and that work is still ongoing to resolve remaining issues. He said Pakistan’s role as a mediator has supported regional stability at a time when the global economy is facing challenges due to the conflict.
