Punjab launches 'Apna Khet Apna Rozgar' scheme for landless farmers
The Punjab government has started the “Apna Khet Apna Rozgar” scheme to help landless farmers by giving them government land on a 10-year lease.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said agricultural land worth around Rs. 160 billion will be given to eligible farmers. More than 88,780 families across the province are expected to benefit from this scheme.
She said the land will only be used for farming purposes. A total of 13,821 plots have been allocated in different districts, including 1,668 plots in Cholistan.
Under the scheme, farmers will receive land worth Rs. 25 lakh to Rs. 40 lakh. Some plots will be as large as five acres.
Azma Bukhari also said that every selected farmer will get a one-time grant of Rs. 50,000 for support.
She added that 8,000 tube wells have already been converted to solar energy under agricultural reforms.
The Punjab government said the scheme will help improve farming, increase production, and support better living standards in rural areas.
