The Sindh government has approved a major “Mega Graveyard Project” in Karachi, allocating 500 acres of land to address the growing need for burial space in the city.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the CM House on Tuesday, where multiple development, welfare, and reform initiatives worth over Rs30 billion were also approved.

The meeting, attended by provincial ministers, advisers, and senior officials, focused on key sectors including infrastructure, healthcare, education, governance reforms, and public relief measures.

Addressing the cabinet, the chief minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating development while providing relief to citizens affected by inflation and economic challenges. He highlighted ongoing efforts in infrastructure development, social protection, digital governance, and institutional strengthening.

As part of the initiatives, the cabinet approved funds for projects beyond Karachi as well. An amount of Rs252.206 million was sanctioned for a graveyard in Hyderabad, while Rs800 million was allocated for water supply pipelines in Qasimabad, including a new line for the Khanpota Water Treatment Plant.

For Karachi’s infrastructure, Rs6.5 billion was approved as a grant for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to rehabilitate roads across 24 Town Municipal Corporations. The chief minister directed immediate release of funds to ensure timely execution.

Focusing on Karachi’s burial space shortage, the cabinet approved the allocation of 500 acres in Deh Mitha Ghar, District Malir, for the Mega Graveyard Project. The land has been reserved for the Local Government Department to develop the facility and meet the city’s long-term needs.
