06 May, 2026 11:32

Electricity consumers across Pakistan, including those served by K-Electric, are expected to receive significant financial relief of nearly Rs64 billion.

Power Distribution Companies (DISCOs) have submitted a formal petition seeking tariff adjustments for the first quarter of 2026. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is scheduled to hear the request on 19 May in Islamabad.

The companies have requested a total relief of Rs63.936 billion for the period between January and March. The petition includes a proposed reduction of Rs36.837 billion under capacity charges.

Further reductions of Rs11.243 billion have been sought under system usage charges and market operation fees. However, the companies have also requested a recovery of Rs2.777 billion under monthly adjustment losses.

Additionally, a reduction of Rs23.51 billion has been proposed under incremental unit adjustments. Officials confirmed that the expected tariff relief would also benefit K-Electric consumers.

Earlier developments include government-level initiatives to reduce electricity costs and improve supply efficiency. A provincial plan in Sindh aims to generate affordable electricity and strengthen transmission infrastructure to reduce line losses and improve distribution efficiency.
