Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir-Saeid Iravani, has reaffirmed the country’s determination to defend itself against the United States and Israel amid growing tensions in the region.

Speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Wednesday, Iravani urged US President Donald Trump to stop making threats against Iran.

He said Iran has exercised its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter in response to what Tehran describes as violations of the April ceasefire.

“Iran remains determined to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, national security, and people,” he said.

He added that “The United States and the Israeli regime, as the aggressor parties, will bear full responsibility for all consequences of their illegal actions and any subsequent escalation of tensions.”

The Iranian envoy also stressed that Tehran does not negotiate under pressure and will not submit to threats.

According to Iravani, if Washington wants a diplomatic solution, it should engage with Iran on the basis of mutual respect, sovereign equality, and international law.

He further called on the UN Security Council to address what he described as the root causes of instability in West Asia, including ongoing conflicts and foreign military involvement in the region.

The ambassador said lasting peace requires respect for national sovereignty, accountability for acts of aggression, and equal implementation of international law.

Recent tensions have increased following military exchanges between Iran, the United States, and Israel. Iran maintains that it will continue to respond to actions it considers threats to its security and territorial integrity.
