Sindh announces public holidays for Ashura on June 25 and 26
The Sindh government has announced public holidays on June 25 and 26, 2026, for Ashura, which falls on Muharram 9 and 10, 1448 AH.
According to a notification issued by the chief secretary and shared by the Sindh Information Department, all provincial government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils will remain closed on both days.
However, essential services will continue to operate as usual.
Ashura is observed every year during the Islamic month of Muharram and holds great religious importance for Muslims, especially the Shia community.
The day marks the martyrdom of Imam Husain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), during the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
The event is remembered as a symbol of sacrifice, courage, and standing against injustice. Across the country, religious gatherings, processions, and mourning ceremonies are held to mark the occasion.
