Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has successfully returned to Pakistan after completing his high-stakes official visit to Switzerland, where he participated in landmark Iran-US negotiations conducted under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The prime minister described the talks as deeply positive and constructive, noting that substantial progress had been achieved toward sealing a final comprehensive agreement between Washington and Tehran.

PM Shehbaz departed from Zurich upon concluding his visit, where he was given a formal farewell by senior Swiss officials and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Marghub Saleem Butt. Notably, the prime minister was accompanied throughout the visit by Field Marshal Asim Munir, who played an active and central role in the high-level discussions held at Bürgenstock.

First High-Level Committee Meeting Concludes Successfully

Taking to social media following the conclusion of the talks, Prime Minister Shehbaz shared a message of optimism and achievement, confirming that the first meeting of the High-Level Committee, established under the Islamabad MoU, had concluded on a successful note.

“Alhamdulillah,” the premier wrote, adding that the discussions were conducted in a positive and constructive atmosphere and produced encouraging progress on multiple fronts.

According to the prime minister, all participating parties formally agreed on a roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement within the next 60 days. The meeting also resulted in the establishment of a High-Level Committee that will provide ongoing political oversight to the entire diplomatic process as it moves forward.

Technical Talks to Continue

PM Shehbaz confirmed that further technical-level negotiations will now proceed as part of the broader effort to finalise the comprehensive agreement. He underscored that Pakistan will continue to serve as an honest and sincere facilitator of dialogue and diplomacy, with a firm focus on achieving a peaceful and lasting resolution to the ongoing tensions between the two nations.

The prime minister extended commendations to the leaderships of both the United States and Iran for sustaining their commitment to constructive engagement throughout the process. He also acknowledged the support of all brotherly and friendly nations that contributed to advancing what he described as a historic diplomatic initiative.

Special Tribute to Qatar and Switzerland

PM Shehbaz paid special tribute to Qatar for its indispensable role in creating the conditions necessary for the talks to materialise, and extended his gratitude to the Swiss government for hosting and facilitating the negotiations at Bürgenstock, Switzerland — a venue that served as the backdrop for a potentially game-changing moment in Middle Eastern diplomacy.

Field Marshal Asim Munir Hailed as Architect of Success

In one of the most significant acknowledgements of his message, Prime Minister Shehbaz reserved special praise for Field Marshal Asim Munir, crediting his relentless dedication as a driving force behind the talks’ positive outcome.

“His dedication, commitment and perseverance are indeed commendable,” the premier stated, adding that:“There would have been no progress without his efforts.”

He further emphasised that the Field Marshal’s determination, steadfastness and tireless work played a central role in pushing the negotiations toward meaningful results.

Appreciation for Ishaq Dar and Mohsin Naqvi

The prime minister also extended warm gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for his diplomatic contributions and the exceptional work carried out by the Foreign Office team throughout the process. He additionally recognised the efforts of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, acknowledging that his hard work contributed immensely to the overall success of the talks.

Concluding his message, PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s enduring commitment to facilitating dialogue and diplomacy, pledging that the country will continue to play a constructive and proactive role in supporting efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful and durable resolution through negotiations.
