Millions Join Martyred Sayyed Ali Khamenei’s Funeral in Iraq’s Najaf

The funeral procession for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and his family members has officially started in the holy city of Najaf, Iraq. Millions of mourners gathered to pay their final respects.

According to Iraqi media, millions of Iraqis, along with pilgrims from several countries, joined the funeral ceremonies. Thousands of people arrived in Najaf before sunrise and gathered near the Shrine of Imam Ali (AS) to wait for the procession.

The bodies were brought to the Shrine of Imam Ali (AS), where thousands of mourners carried the coffins on their shoulders. The coffins were taken around the holy shrine before funeral prayers were offered.

During the procession, mourners chanted religious slogans, recited prayers, and expressed support for the people of Iran. Large crowds also gathered at the airport and nearby areas to take part in the prayers and memorial ceremonies.

According to the official schedule, the funeral procession will continue in Najaf before moving to the holy city of Karbala later on Wednesday.

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi declared Wednesday a public holiday across Iraq to mark the funeral ceremonies for the martyred leader and his family.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi attended an official reception at Najaf International Airport to receive the body of the martyred leader before the funeral began.

The funeral ceremonies started in Tehran on Friday, where people and foreign dignitaries paid their respects. Public farewell events continued over the weekend, followed by a massive funeral procession through the streets of Tehran on Monday.

On Tuesday, millions of people gathered at the Holy Jamkaran Mosque in Qom to offer funeral prayers for Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

The final funeral ceremony will take place on Thursday in the Iranian city of Mashhad. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei will be buried at the Shrine of Imam Reza (AS), following his will.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and several members of his family were assassinated on February 28 during the first day of the 40-day conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Following his death, the Assembly of Experts appointed Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei as the new Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
