Pezeshkian Back in Tehran as Iran Prepares Response to US Aggression

Iran Denies President Pezeshkian Resignation Reports, Calls Them 'False' and 'Media Games'
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has returned to Tehran after shortening his visit to Iraq following recent US airstrikes on Iran, as the country remains immersed in mourning over the farewell ceremonies of martyred leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
According to Iranian state media, President Pezeshkian departed from the Iraqi city of Najaf and returned to the Iranian capital amid heightened regional tensions. His decision came as Iran continued preparations for the final farewell ceremonies of the martyred leader, whose passing has brought the nation together in grief and remembrance.
President Pezeshkian had traveled to Iraq to attend the funeral ceremonies and pay tribute to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The martyred leader’s body was transported to Najaf on Tuesday night, where mourners gathered to offer prayers and express their respect.
During his visit, the Iranian president was also scheduled to hold important meetings with senior Iraqi officials. However, the regional situation following the US airstrikes led to a change in plans, prompting his early return to Tehran.
The development came at a deeply emotional moment for Iran, where citizens continue to mourn the loss of a leader regarded by supporters as a symbol of resistance, dedication, and commitment to national sovereignty.
Meanwhile, the coffin of martyred leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will be taken from Najaf to the holy city of Karbala before being transferred to Mashhad, Iran, for the final burial ceremonies. The burial is expected to take place on July 9.
The ongoing farewell ceremonies have drawn widespread public participation, with people gathering to honor the memory of the martyred leader and express solidarity during a period marked by both national grief and regional challenges.
President Pezeshkian’s return to Tehran highlights the seriousness of the current situation as Iran faces a period of mourning alongside increasing tensions in the region. For many Iranians, the moment represents both a time of sorrow and a reaffirmation of unity, resilience, and national determination.
