Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Reviews Flood, Monsoon Preparedness, Orders High Alert

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired a high-level meeting on flood and monsoon preparedness, reviewing the province’s readiness to deal with potential heavy rains and urban flooding. Addressing the meeting, she said several cities in Punjab face the risk of urban flooding, while the Pothohar region could experience cloudbursts. She also warned that temperatures in some areas may rise to as high as 52°C, stressing that climate change is a reality and requires comprehensive preparedness.

The chief minister said the provincial government has established 14 warehouses across all divisions, equipped with life-saving equipment and emergency relief supplies. She added that arrangements have been made to provide food and drinking water for livestock, while Rescue 1122 and other emergency agencies will continue conducting mock exercises to strengthen their response capabilities. According to her, all relevant departments have been mobilized to effectively respond to any flood-related emergency.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the government does not want to lose even a single life due to negligence or inadequate preparation. Expressing sorrow over the Kahna tragedy, she urged parents to keep their children away from hazardous areas during the monsoon season. She also directed law enforcement agencies to maintain strict vigilance over criminal elements in neighborhoods to help ensure public safety during the expected severe weather.
