PM Shehbaz Calls for Stronger China Partnership in Pharmaceutical Sector

17 July, 2026 17:04

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for greater cooperation between Pakistan and China in the pharmaceutical sector, saying Chinese investment and expertise can help increase local medicine production, boost exports, and make medicines more affordable.

Speaking at the Pakistan-China Pharmaceutical Conference in Islamabad, the prime minister described China as Pakistan’s “most sincere and trusted friend” and thanked Beijing for supporting Pakistan during difficult times.

He said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a bridge of progress and shared development between the two countries. He added that stronger cooperation in pharmaceutical manufacturing would support Pakistan’s economy and improve public healthcare.

PM Shehbaz welcomed Chinese investment in the pharmaceutical industry and said Pakistan wants to benefit from China’s technology, manufacturing experience, and investment.

He also said Pakistan recently played a mediating role between Iran and the United States and claimed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was signed because of Pakistan’s efforts. He added that Pakistan’s leadership, including Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, helped prevent a wider regional conflict.

The prime minister said business-to-business partnerships and joint ventures between Pakistani and Chinese companies would strengthen the pharmaceutical industry, reduce dependence on imported medicines and raw materials, and increase exports.

He added that Pakistan-China cooperation would help provide affordable medicines to the public.

Reaffirming the close ties between the two countries, PM Shehbaz said, “China’s happiness is connected with Pakistan’s happiness.”
