Trump Says US-Saudi Civil Nuclear Deal Hinges on Saudi Recognition of Israel

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that any agreement to help Saudi Arabia develop a civilian nuclear energy program will depend on the kingdom formally recognizing the State of Israel. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the proposed civil nuclear deal, which he stressed would be limited to non-military purposes and involve no uranium enrichment, would only be approved if Saudi Arabia joins the Abraham Accords.

Trump said Saudi Arabia’s participation in the Abraham Accords was a prerequisite for the agreement, describing the normalization framework as successful and widely respected. The accords, brokered during his administration, have resulted in five countries, including two Arab states, establishing diplomatic relations with Israel.

Saudi Arabia has consistently maintained that it will not recognize Israel unless an independent Palestinian state is established. The kingdom has repeatedly said that progress toward a two-state solution remains a fundamental condition for normalizing relations with Israel.
