Shahood Alvi Responds to Backlash Over Viral Remarks About Housewives

The veteran actor and director Shahood Alvi form Pakistan showbiz industry has break silence on the his viral video about his remarks on women explaining that his comments were misunderstood and did not reflect his personal beliefs about women.

In multiple Instagram Stories, Alvi defended his remarks, saying they were taken out of context. He explained that the topic came up when a woman called the program and complained that her husband spent most of his time on his phone instead of with her.

He said, “We were all discussing how the majority of men in our society think. This has nothing to do with my views on women,” Alvi said that he supports strong and confident women and has treated his wife and daughters accordingly.

“I empower and support strong and confident women, and that’s how I’ve treated my wife and daughters all along.”

Alvi further explained that he provides his wife with domestic support and values and respects her contributions.

“I have provided my wife with all the household help she needs. I respect everything she has done for me,” he added.

He also denied the narrative that had emerged around the viral clips.

“The narrative currently circulating does not reflect what I actually said or believe. Shame on people who try to tarnish one’s reputation just for views,” he emphasised.

Alvi reacted after clips from the TV debate risen on social media and generated criticism. During the show, he talk over relationships between husbands and wives and shared his opinions on why some men may lose interest in their partners.

Alvi had said, “Most of the time women stink with the smell of ginger and garlic when their husband is at home, while in office he is surrounded with girls wearing perfumes.”

He also advised women to make an effort in their relationships by preparing their husbands’ favourite dishes and dressing up for them. He added that husbands spending too much time on their phones was not a healthy sign for a relationship.

During the discussion, actresses Leyla Zuberi and Fahima Awan also gave their opinions, suggesting that women should make an effort to look presentable for their partners.

Social media users criticized the resurfaced remarks, arguing that relationship responsibilities should not be placed mainly on women.

Alvi is a familiar name in Pakistani television, having worked as both an actor and director on projects such as Makan, Mera Saaein, Dunk, Nanhi, Ghisi Piti Mohabbat and Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha.
