Amal Movement Lawmaker Condemns Silence Over Israeli Strikes in Southern Lebanon

A member of Lebanon’s Amal Movement has criticized what she described as the Lebanese political establishment’s silence over the killing of civilians in southern Lebanon as a result of Israeli strikes. Inaya Ezzeddine, a member of the Development and Liberation parliamentary bloc, also questioned efforts by some Lebanese parties to pursue direct negotiations with Israel while civilians continue to lose their lives.
Speaking on Monday, Ezzeddine said the effects of Israeli attacks and destruction could be seen across large parts of southern Lebanon, from the Majdal Zoun area to Kounine and Deir Seryan, as well as Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, Kfar Tebnit, al-Mansouri, Bint Jbeil, Ansar and Deir al-Zahrani. She said the killing of local residents had increasingly become treated as an ordinary occurrence while Lebanese officials remained largely silent.
Ezzeddine expressed particular concern over the number of women and children among the casualties, saying some political factions were attempting to downplay the deaths by portraying them as routine casualties. She warned that becoming accustomed to such violence could be even more dangerous than the attacks themselves, arguing that the death of entire Lebanese families must never be normalized.
