Russia Raises Concerns Over Reported US Weapons Transfer to Ukraine via Türkiye
MOSCOW: Russia has voiced concern over a reported plan by the United States and Türkiye to supply Ukraine warning that the deliveries could further undermine relations between Russia, the United States and Türkiye.
According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, said newly released documents from the US Congress point to a potentially large shipment of military equipment to Ukraine, including weapons designed for offensive operations.
As Per Zakharova statement , the documents mention 12 multiple rocket launch systems, more than 2,500 non-guided cluster munitions, 47,000 203mm cluster shells and 70 ATACMS short-range missiles.
She noted that key details about the reported transfer are still unclear including who initiated the plan, how the weapons would be transported and when they would be delivered to Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeperson raises concerns the decision by Washington and Ankara, saying both countries have previously expressed support for diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict.
She argued that sending additional weapons to Ukraine would not fundamentally change the course of the conflict but could lead to further casualties and destruction.
The spokesperson from Russian also warned that the reported deliveries could seriously affect Moscow’s relations with both Washington and Ankara.
She noted that Turkish authorities had previously given assurances that they would refrain from supplying lethal weapons to Ukraine, saying any move in the opposite direction could further weaken mutual trust.
Zakharova said Russia’s Foreign Ministry has requested explanations from both Washington and Ankara following the information cited by the US Congress.
She urged the parties involved to reconsider the situation and said there was still time to take a more cautious approach to the reported weapons transfer.
