Iran Wins Bronze, Three Honorable Mentions at International Geography Olympiad 2026

Iran’s national geography Olympiad team has secured a bronze medal and three honorable mentions at the 22nd International Geography Olympiad (iGeo 2026), adding another achievement to the country’s growing record of success in international academic competitions.

Held from August 11 to 17 in Istanbul, Turkiye, the competition brought together more than 180 students from over 50 countries. Iranian student Helia Khodabandeh-Loo won the bronze medal, while Artina Heydari, Setayesh Hagh-Nazari and Sana Karbalayi received honorable mentions for their performances.

The achievement follows a series of strong results by Iranian students in international competitions this year. At the 38th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2026) in Tashkent, Iran won two silver medals, one bronze medal and one honorable mention, while its team at the third International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) secured one gold, two silver and one bronze medal.
