Six Killed in Ukrainian Missile Strikes on Russia’s Belgorod Region

Six people have been killed and four others injured in overnight Ukrainian missile strikes on Russia’s Belgorod region, according to the region’s acting governor, Alexander Shuvaev. He said on Monday that a 14-year-old child was among those injured. The latest strikes reportedly damaged a vehicle and set a building on fire in the village of Koloskovo in the Valuysky district near the Ukrainian border, while the injured child was taken to hospital and two others received medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials said two people were killed in overnight Russian drone strikes on Ukraine’s Sumy region, which borders Russia and has frequently come under attack. The latest exchange of strikes followed what Russian authorities described as Ukraine’s “largest-scale” attack of the year, in which at least seven people were reportedly killed. Russian attacks on Ukraine on Saturday night also killed at least seven people and injured more than 39 others.
The escalating attacks come amid the continuing Russia-Ukraine conflict that began with Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Russia currently controls approximately one-fifth of Ukrainian territory. In a separate incident, a woman was reportedly killed when a drone struck a residential building in Russia’s southern Astrakhan region, according to the local governor, highlighting the continued expansion of attacks beyond the immediate front lines.
