Resistance Activities Against Taliban Increase in Afghanistan Over the Past Week
Resistance activities against the Taliban regime have increased across several parts of Afghanistan over the past week.
The National Resistance Front (NRF), Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) and Afghanistan United Front (AUF) carried out several targeted attacks and armed operations in different provinces and cities.
On August 16, the NRF carried out an operation against Taliban forces in Fering district of Baghlan. According to the NRF, one Taliban member was killed and two others were injured.
On August 15, the NRF also targeted the Taliban’s Seventh Police Zone in Kunduz. The group claimed that three Taliban members were killed and a military vehicle was destroyed in the attack.
The AFF carried out attacks on Taliban positions in Zebak district of Badakhshan on August 16. The group claimed that six Taliban members were killed and eight others were injured. It also said Taliban forces were forced to withdraw from several locations and that some positions were taken by the resistance front.
On August 19, the AFF launched a rocket attack on the Taliban governor’s office and a security checkpoint in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan. The attack was followed by around 30 minutes of fighting between the two sides. The AFF claimed four Taliban members were killed and five were injured.
On August 20, the AFF again attacked Taliban positions in Zebak. According to the group, the fighting continued for around three and a half hours, leaving six Taliban members dead and at least 10 injured. The AFF also claimed that several attempts by Taliban forces to capture its positions were unsuccessful.
The AUF also carried out operations against Taliban forces. On August 18, it attacked Taliban positions in Lashkar Gah, claiming four Taliban members were killed and a Ranger vehicle was destroyed.
On August 19, the AUF targeted the entrance of a military facility belonging to the Taliban’s 205 Corps in Kandahar. The group claimed that five Taliban members were killed, three were injured and a military vehicle was destroyed.
According to claims from the resistance groups, at least 29 Taliban members were killed and 28 injured in the attacks reported over the past week.
The Taliban faced attacks in Badakhshan, Baghlan, Kandahar and Helmand. The reported use of rocket attacks, targeted operations and direct clashes points to increased resistance activity against the Taliban across several parts of Afghanistan.
