Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan Reaffirm Commitment to Stronger Bilateral Ties and SCO Cooperation

BISHKEK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev in Bishkek ahead of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s meeting with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov.

During the meeting, Ishaq Dar congratulated Kyrgyzstan on its successful leadership of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and appreciated its effective hosting of the SCO Summit and the inaugural ceremony of the sixth World Nomad Games.

The Deputy Prime Minister praised Kyrgyzstan’s leadership in advancing the SCO agenda and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations.

Ishaq Dar emphasised Pakistan’s interest in expanding cooperation with Kyrgyzstan across key areas, including trade, investment, energy, connectivity, regional security and people-to-people exchanges.

He highlighted the importance of closer economic and regional cooperation between the two countries, particularly in areas that can contribute to greater connectivity and shared economic opportunities.

Foreign Minister Kulubaev congratulated Pakistan on assuming the Chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026–27, expressing confidence that Islamabad would provide effective leadership in advancing the organisation’s agenda.

Kulubaev underscored the importance Kyrgyzstan attaches to its close and friendly relations with Pakistan and expressed his country’s readiness to further expand bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on regional and international developments.

They agreed to maintain close coordination within the SCO and other multilateral forums, with the shared objective of promoting peace, stability and prosperity.

Ishaq Dar was accompanied during the meeting by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch.

The meeting comes as Pakistan prepares to assume a greater leadership role within the SCO and seeks to strengthen its economic and diplomatic engagement with Central Asian states.
