Iraq Orders Closure of Shalamcheh Border Crossing With Iran

Iraq has ordered the closure of the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran as a precautionary measure.

Two Iraqi security sources told Reuters that the crossing was closed after a drone attack targeted Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline from Iraqi territory.

The Shalamcheh crossing is one of the main land routes for movement between Iraq and Iran.

The drone used in the attack on Saudi Arabia was launched from Iraq’s southeastern Maysan province, which shares a border with Iran. The provincial capital is Amarah.
