15 September, 2026 14:35

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Pakistan Army troops have launched emergency rescue and relief operations in Paharpur tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan after a major breach developed in the Chashma Right Bank Canal, creating an emergency situation in nearby villages and residential areas.

According to the information available, the canal was carrying around 3,800 cusecs of water when a breach measuring approximately 100 to 150 feet developed.

The large flow of water created a risk of flooding in nearby villages and populated areas, prompting authorities to begin emergency response measures.

Pakistan Army personnel reached the affected area promptly and began rescue and relief activities.

The troops are assisting in the evacuation of residents from areas threatened by floodwater and are also supporting other emergency response measures.

Two relief camps have been established in Paharpur to facilitate the relocation of local residents to safer areas.

Authorities are also taking measures to move livestock and other animals from vulnerable areas to safer locations.

Army personnel are assisting local communities with evacuation, relief activities and other emergency arrangements to minimise the impact of the canal breach.

The ongoing operation is focused on protecting residents, moving people and animals out of vulnerable locations and providing immediate assistance to communities affected by the flooding.

Emergency relief activities are continuing in coordination with relevant local authorities as efforts remain underway to address the situation caused by the canal breach.
