PML-N’s Dr Najeeb Naqi Elected President of Azad Kashmir for Five-Year Term

MUZAFFARABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Dr Muhammad Najeeb Naqi has been elected as the new President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir after securing 32 votes in the presidential election.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Chaudhry Latif Akbar received 13 votes, according to the election results.

Dr Najeeb Naqi has become the 25th President of Azad Kashmir.

Voting for the election of the new president was held in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, where Dr Najeeb Naqi faced PPP candidate Chaudhry Latif Akbar.

The session of the Legislative Assembly was chaired by Speaker Chaudhry Tariq Farooq.

The voting process was followed by the counting of ballots and announcement of the successful candidate.

The PML-N held a majority in the assembly, with 32 members, including an allied member, while the PPP had 14 members.

A candidate needed the support of 27 members of the Legislative Assembly to secure victory in the presidential election.

Following his election, Dr Najeeb Naqi is scheduled to take oath as the new President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
