Iranian Guards Official Calls Trump a ‘big liar’ Over Nuclear Claims and Hormuz

DUBAI: An Iranian Revolutionary Guards spokesperson on Tuesday called US President Donald Trump a “big liar”, accusing him of hiding the truth from Americans about Iran’s nuclear programme and the impact of Iran’s blockade of energy supplies from the Gulf.

US President Donald Trump has said that one of the reasons for the war with Iran is to ensure that Tehran can never build a nuclear weapon.

“The enemy (US) knows that Iran is not after nuclear weapons,” Hossein Mohebbi said. “Their issue with Iran is not its nuclear programme but rather its vastness, which they want to destroy.”

Mohebbi also rejected US claims that Iran has lost much of its control over the Strait of Hormuz. He said the US military may have protected some tankers carrying oil from the Gulf, but this does not mean the waterway is fully open.

“The fact that the Americans might manage, at great expense, considerable trouble, and high risk to sneak a small vessel through the Strait of Hormuz under cover of darkness to export, say, 100 or 200 barrels of oil does not mean the Strait is open,” Mohebbi said.

According to Kpler data, oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz have increased in September and are expected to reach nearly 10 million barrels per day, around half of the pre-war level.
