Trump Threatens Iran’s Existence as He Laments Missing Out on Nobel Peace Prize

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has issued another stark warning to Iran, demanding that Tehran accept Washington’s terms or face the consequences, while expressing frustration over his failure to win the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
A statement circulating on social media and attributed to Trump quotes him as saying that Iran must accept all US demands or risk ceasing to exist.
“Either they give us everything, or they won’t exist anymore. They know that,” the statement reads.
However, the authenticity of this specific quotation could not be independently verified against a complete original video or official transcript.
Trump repeats claim of ending eight wars
Trump has reiterated his argument that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, saying he has ended eight wars and that no other US president has achieved a similar record.
The US president has repeatedly cited his diplomatic efforts in international disputes, including tensions between Pakistan and India, as evidence of his contribution to peace. However, the conflicts he lists have had different outcomes, and some have not been permanently resolved.
Trump has continued to argue that his efforts to resolve international disputes have not received sufficient recognition.
Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Navi Pillay
The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced on October 9 that South African jurist and former UN human rights chief Navanethem “Navi” Pillay had won the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
The committee recognised her work on international law, justice and human rights.
Pillay, 85, served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014 and previously worked as a judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
The decision came despite Trump’s repeated public appeals for the honour. Pakistan had also supported his nomination, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praising Trump’s role in helping secure a ceasefire between Pakistan and India.
Trump subsequently expressed dissatisfaction with the Nobel Committee’s decision and maintained that his diplomatic record deserved international recognition.
Iran tensions and the future of negotiations
The latest remarks come amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran, with military pressure and diplomatic contacts unfolding simultaneously.
The Trump administration has maintained a hard line on Iran, while Tehran has opposed US military threats and economic sanctions. Despite the confrontational rhetoric, the future of negotiations remains uncertain.
It is unclear whether the two sides will reach an agreement or whether Washington will intensify its military and economic pressure.
Trump’s latest statements have renewed attention to the contrast between his threats against Iran and his repeated calls for international recognition of his diplomatic efforts. The direction of the crisis will depend on developments in negotiations, the military situation and the positions taken by both governments.
