Iran Says Hormuz Security Impossible Amid US Naval Blockade

“American claims bear no resemblance to what we are witnessing on the ground,” Baghaei said during a press conference on Monday. He added that Washington could continue claiming Iran had lost its strategic leverage, but Tehran would maintain its current position. The remarks underscore the continuing dispute between the two countries over control and security in the vital maritime corridor.
Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz following the latest round of US-Israeli military action against the Islamic Republic on February 28. The two sides subsequently agreed to a 60-day reopening period under a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding in June. However, Tehran says US violations of the arrangement forced it to reimpose the closure, leaving the waterway’s status a major point of contention.
