Macron Arrives in UAE for Gulf Tour Amid Strait of Hormuz Crisis

French President Emmanuel Macron has arrived in the United Arab Emirates for an official visit focused on regional tensions, maritime security and the disruption of energy supplies amid the crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received Macron upon his arrival in Abu Dhabi, where an official welcoming ceremony was held. The national anthems of France and the UAE were played, and an honour guard presented a salute.

The visit comes as tensions in the Gulf raise concerns about the security of shipping routes and the stability of global energy markets. One of the key issues expected to feature in discussions is restoring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and safeguarding energy supply routes.

France is also seeking to strengthen cooperation with Gulf countries in defence, security, trade and investment. Talks with UAE leadership are expected to cover these areas alongside emerging technologies and regional stability.

Macron’s visit forms part of wider diplomatic efforts by Gulf countries to reduce tensions and restore normal maritime traffic. Disruption around the Strait of Hormuz has raised concerns about oil supplies, shipping costs and potential increases in global energy prices.

Separately, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has travelled to Tehran after meetings with Gulf Cooperation Council foreign ministers in Bahrain. Gulf states have urged Moscow to use its influence to help reduce tensions and encourage a diplomatic resolution.

The outcomes of Macron’s meetings and the wider diplomatic efforts remain uncertain, with no immediate agreement on restoring maritime traffic or ending the conflict announced in the supplied information.
