Iran Warns of Strong Response to Any Fresh Attack, Remains Open to Diplomacy

20 October, 2026 16:33

Iran has warned that it will respond to any new military attack while remaining open to diplomatic engagement, identifying what it describes as excessive US demands as the main obstacle to progress in negotiations. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Tuesday that the era of attacks followed by withdrawal without consequences was over, stressing that Tehran would not leave any attack unanswered and could respond with equal or greater force.

Baghaei was responding to reports of a possible US attack on Mount Kolang in Iran’s central Isfahan province, where Washington claims Tehran stores highly enriched uranium. Reaffirming Iran’s military preparedness, the spokesman said the country’s armed forces were ready to repel any aggression. He added that Tehran had conveyed its demands to Washington through Qatar, but considered the US response insufficient.

The Iranian spokesman reiterated that Tehran remained committed to its seven conditions, which include ending the war on all fronts, releasing Iran’s frozen funds and lifting the US naval blockade. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, had previously confirmed that the conditions were communicated through Qatari mediators and that Tehran was awaiting US President Donald Trump’s response. Baghaei maintained that accepting the conditions would serve Washington’s interests and help advance diplomatic efforts.
